With simple care your board will serve you well and last a lifetime. Here are some tips:
- Hand wash with warm soapy water. Rinse well and then towel dry. Stand the board on end to finish air drying before placing flat on the counter surface.
- Occasionally re-oil with food safe mineral oil, beeswax, or other butcher block conditioner. This helps the board resist staining and always look and perform its best.
- Place a kitchen towel under the board to catch juices from cutting or to stabilize the board on an uneven surface as needed.
- Do not soak, submerge in water, or wash in the dishwasher. The steam created inside a diswasher can cause the wood to warp.
- To sanitize, wash the board with a solution of 1 part white vinegar and 5 parts water.
- Remove odors by rubbing with salt and half a lemon. Allow to stand a few minutes then wipe with a damp towel and dry.
- Scratches and knife marks that develop over time may be removed by lightly sanding then re-oiling the board.
- Enjoy! Well crafted wooden boards are beautiful but also durable tools that are designed to be used!
